Hello, humans.

We are just some of the sweet dogs of Calhoun County Animal Control. We are hoping you'll help us upgrade our current situation.

Summer has arrived in Calhoun County, and while everyone else is posting vacation photos, we are over here dreaming about our own summer bucket list:

Ride in a car with the windows down
Supervise a backyard barbecue
Chase exactly one squirrel (for professional reasons)
Take a nap on a couch we're technically not supposed to be on
Find our forever family

Right now, our daily routine is pretty simple.

Wake up.

Wag our tails.

We hear every footstep and think, "This is it! My people are here!"

Then someone walks past our kennels and says, "Aww, what a sweet dog."

Which is nice.

But you know what's even nicer?

Going home.

We've heard stories from the adopted dogs. They come back sometimes to visit, looking all relaxed and shiny.

"Oh yeah," they say. "I spent the afternoon under a ceiling fan, ate a treat shaped like a bone, and accidentally became the center of my family's universe."

Must be rough.

Meanwhile, We're out here trying to look extra handsome every time someone walks by. We've perfected our resumes:

Professional tail wagger
Certified snack enthusiast
Expert listener
Will gladly accompany you to the porch, the couch, the kitchen, and back to the couch

This summer, while you're planning cookouts, lake days, and family gatherings, maybe consider adding one more thing to your schedule:

Meeting a shelter dog.

Because somewhere in Calhoun County, there's a pup like us imagining what it would be like to spend summer with a family of our own.

A family that doesn't walk past.

A family that stops and says:

"That's the one."

Until then, We'll be here practicing our happy dance, keeping our hopes up, and waiting for our forever adventure to begin.

We just need a ride home.

There’s something truly special about watching shelter dogs enjoy a pack walk together. Dogs who spend much of their day waiting patiently for a family get the chance to explore, exercise, build confidence, and simply be dogs. The wagging tails, excited faces, and happy energy remind us just how much these moments mean to them.

Pack walks aren't just good for physical exercise, they provide mental stimulation, socialization, and enrichment that help our dogs become happier, healthier, and more adoptable. Every walk is an adventure, and every adventure helps them shine a little brighter.

We're looking for volunteers to join us and help make these walks possible! Whether you're an experienced dog handler or simply someone who loves animals and enjoys being outdoors, we'd love to have you. Even a few hours of your time can make a huge difference in the lives of our shelter pets.

If you've ever wanted to help but weren't sure how, this is a wonderful place to start. Come walk with us, make some furry friends, and experience firsthand the joy that a simple walk can bring.

One leash. One walk. One happy dog. It all adds up to a better life for the animals in our care.

Homer absolutely crushed it at the OneWorld Canine Obstacle Run with an amazing group from Glencoe, Alabama! They took the time to get to know him, worked together as a team, and tackled every obstacle side by side.

This sweet boy is still looking for his forever home, and thanks to the kindness of this wonderful group, Homer’s adoption fees have been fully sponsored. Now all he needs is a family to call his own ❤️
