24 years ago today…

Mothers & Fathers, Sisters & Brothers, Sons & Daughters, Husbands & Wives, Friends & Family, and Strangers & Lovers woke up to just another day.

2,977 of them wouldn’t see September 12th.

Thousands more would be in for a lifetime of Trauma and PTSD

Tens of thousands more suffer today from Medical complications and cancers due to their service, including my father pictured above.

Few know or talk about the pain of that day, the horror at ground Zero, the maddening silence of hospitals prepared for waves of mass casualties that would never come and instead die trapped in rubble instead of saved in their ERs.

Fewer still talk about the continued struggle to survive.

The ongoing burden on every medical specialty from Dermatology to Oncology.

The pain and suffering from wounds seen and unseen, and of those yet to come.

Perhaps worst of all… The empty chairs at home…

No amount of thoughts can prevent what has past, no amount of prayers can raise the fallen.

And yet they live on… NEVER FORGET 9/11/01

What does it mean to “Never Forget”? Do we remember the moment? Or do we remember the aftermath? Do we remember that day? Or how it changed our future forever? Do we remember those lost in the pile? Or do we remember those we are still losing to 9/11 related illness? Some days I remember it all and other days are an escape. But I will never be the same and I will

This post contains a series of photos taken by my father in chronological order on the ground at 9/11 as a first responder. As well as something I penned out as a first responder dealing with the losses and battles of those I know dealing with 9/11 related illnesses, both physical and mental.

On 9/11/01 in NYC we lost:

343 Firefighters
37 PAPD
23 NYPD
8 EMS
1 Fire Patrolman

But hundreds more have perished from the after effects such as mental crisis and 9/11 related cancers and diseases.

Thousands more suffer each day as they undergo treatment or live with the PTSD.

We lost many civilians whose families had to pick up their lives and move on. Some couldn’t.

This is why today matters and we must
