$14,721. That's the approximate cost per gallon for ink for our HP office printer.
I paid $105 this morning for CMY ink, which contains about 9ml per cartridge. This multi pack didn't even include the black cartridge. The printer is nothing out of the ordinary, just a pretty normal inkjet printer.
If you've ever wondered why they can afford to practically give away printers, this is why. They make their money from the ink. Of course, the costs have increased about 30% due to tariffs over the past few months.
In addition, the USB flash drives we use in our business have increased in cost by 65% the past few months, also mostly due to tariffs.
Just a couple of more reasons why it's so difficult for a small business to make it these days.
DID YOU KNOW? At the peak of the film era in 2000, we took an estimated 80 billion photos in that single year. We now take that many photos every two weeks.
Current estimates put the total number of photos taken annually at over 1.5 trillion, and the vast majority (over 92%) are captured not with Canons or Nikons, but with smartphones. To put this in perspective: we now take almost as many photos every year as were taken in roughly half of the entire 20th century. (Source: fstoppers.com)

Had a fun weekend at the 3rd Annual Forever Photo Organizing Retreat in Lewes, Delaware. Photographers and photo organizers from as far away as Michigan, Wisconsin, and Texas attended. It was great to meet and make some new friends!
The Virden Conference Center University of Delaware Conference Services is the perfect location for a small conference like this. We had the entire place to ourselves!
Thanks to Carrie Koster from Memories In The Sand, Joy Russo, and Nancy Martin for putting all of this together.

We had a great turnout for the MdPPA (Maryland Professional Photographers Association) Member Connect on Columbus Day! Photographers and photo organizers from as far away as Washington DC and Delaware attended.
It was good to welcome everybody to our studio for a demo of how we digitize photo prints, slides, negatives, videos, and film reels at PhotoScan Express. We also shared workflow tips, photography gear ideas, and plenty of good conversation (and snacks!).
A big thanks to everyone who came out to connect and exchange ideas - and to MdPPA for helping bring our community together.
Looking forward to the next one!

📸 Happy World Photography Day!
My very first camera was a Yashica TL Electro-X 35mm - the first SLR with a solid-state metering system. At 16, I got an exemption that let me spend my summer working in a hot glass factory just to save enough to buy it (plus a few accessories). Some days it was so hot, we had to stop every 30 minutes just to take water breaks.
That camera was worth every bit of sweat - I enjoyed it for many years, and I still keep a similar one in my vintage collection.
