Looking for a tutor?
I'm Halli Bronstein, a DMV-based writing mentor and private tutor skilled in English language and literature, writing, editing, and the humanities.
I coach middle and high school students in English and various styles of academic writing. I also help elementary school students build a strong foundational understanding of the alphabet, sight words, grammar, and vocabulary to solidify their grasp on the English language, improve their reading comprehension and executive functioning skills, and enhance their writing ability.
In addition, I have years of experience helping students write powerful college application essays that grant them admission to their dream schools. My background in narrative writing makes me uniquely equipped to draw personal stories out of my students and work with them to turn their life experiences into compelling narratives that demonstrate their strengths, their core values, and their academic and career aspirations.
I adore working with kids and adolescents, and it's my passion to help them learn and grow. I take the time to guide each student through academic challenges and build their confidence to ensure future success as we tackle assignments as a team.
I make a point to develop a strong bond and an open channel of communication with each of my students. Once we build a foundation of trust and understanding, I create a personalized study plan to fit each student's unique needs. I maintain consistent contact with students to ensure regular progress and engagement with the material at hand. In this way, I eliminate the tension that often ensues between parent and child when parents assume the role of homework monitor.
By fostering curiosity, motivation, and sound executive functioning skills, I can help students and parents navigate the changing educational landscape. I am committed to helping students adapt to virtual and hybrid learning, providing skills and strategies for them to master curriculum content whether they are at home or in the classroom.
I graduated cm laude from the University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in English Language & Literature, and a focus in professional writing. I also have a background in psychology, sociology, history, and art.

“Writing advice, I found out, was just life advice. The same way writers tackled the blank page was how I should tackle life.”
Lauren Martin on Realizing Writing Advice Applies to Life, Too I do believe . . . that everything you need to know about life can be learned from a genuine and ongoing attempt to write. –Dani Shapiro, Still Writing * To study this mood, I didn’t need to seek o…
In addition to private tutoring, I'm also teaching virtual art classes for kids of all ages!
Sessions run from 30 to 60 minutes, with both individual and small-group instruction options. I teach kids the basics of color theory, form, shape, depth, and techniques like texture and shading with paint, colored pencils, markers, and other mediums as requested.
For each session, I create a lesson plan centered around a specific topic followed by an activity to reinforce the skill. An abbreviated example of a lesson plan for a beginner is as follows:
Color Theory Basics: Using the Color Wheel to Bring Objects to Life
In this lesson, we will learn the difference between primary colors, secondary colors, tertiary colors, cool colors, and warm colors. We will use the color wheel to experiment with different mixing techniques to achieve a desired color and textural effect. Students will then use this awareness of how to use color and apply it to a project where.....
