After spending 11 days at the Iowa State Fair, quickly followed by setting up and conducting an estate sale, I was back in the kitchen yesterday, trying a new recipe for Carrot Cake Jam. Success! If you would like to learn how to make jam and can it, let's get a session scheduled.

Happy World Chocolate Day! For some of us, there is really no need to designate a special date, every day is a good day for chocolate. I have been working on my Grandmother's Sour Cream Devil's Food Cake recipe, and it is just about ready to be reintroduced. Who wants to have a lesson on chocolate cake? Let's get a session on the calendar for in person baking lessons.

My Grandmother, Lucille Hyatt, taught me a lot about cooking, canning and baking. What did you learn from your grandparents in the kitchen? Who knew there was a National Peaches and Cream Day? Peaches do deserve their own holiday, a day off from work to pick, eat, can, and use peaches in baked goods. It is a little early here in Iowa to have local peaches, but when the free stone Elberta variety is in stores, there will be delicious opportunities in my kitchen. Schedule a time to be here with me and enjoy!

It's National Vanilla Milkshake Day! Vanilla is a versatile flavoring, used mostly in baking, but also in candy, drinks, and, of course, Ice Cream. If you want to learn how to make homemade vanilla, homemade vanilla ice cream or even vanilla cake and frosting, let's get a session scheduled for an person cooking lesson.
