In May, our Iowa Neuro Survivor + Family support group gathered to plant flowers in celebration of spring. 🌸 We invite you to join us at this month's support group on Monday, June 15. We will meet at the Ankeny Farmer's Market Pavilion at 5 p.m. and enjoy connection and community while exploring part of the high trestle trail.

In September 2024, Ruth Cusack and her husband, Louis, stopped at the Alaska Native Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, to donate a moose after one of their regular hunting trips. They never imagined just hours later, they’d be back at that same hospital. Ruth suffered a stroke moments after returning home.

After spending time in the ICU and rehabilitation centers, Ruth found her way to On With Life where she focused on day-to-day skills that would get her back to doing what she loves. Louis recalls feeling an overwhelming sense of knowing this is where they needed to be.

Since being discharged in April 2025, Ruth returned home to Alaska and was recently able to go on her first moose hunt post-stroke. “We’re living life and we’re doing things again.”

On With Life now provides medical management services through our outpatient medical clinic! The medical clinic aims to bridge the gap in neurological care through comprehensive neuro rehabilitation, coordinated medical oversight, targeted medical interventions and diagnosis-specific educational tools.

These services are intended for individuals who have experienced a neurological injury or diagnosis such as a traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease or concussion.

Summer is here, which means the On With Life's Annual Reunion is just around the corner! On Saturday, August 1, families and persons served from all programs are invited to join us for an afternoon of fun and connection.
