Grass likes about 1 to 1½ inches of water per week, including rainfall.

Instead of watering every day, water deeply 2–3 times per week. This encourages roots to grow deeper, making your lawn more drought-tolerant and healthier.

The best time to water? Early in the morning, between 5 and 9 AM. Watering in the evening can leave your lawn wet overnight and increase disease risk.

And here’s an easy trick: place an empty tuna can or rain gauge in your yard while watering. Once you’ve collected about an inch of water over the week, you’re done.
