A powerful story in the Daily Journal is putting a spotlight on a growing concern—more people under 50 are being diagnosed with colore**al cancer.
It’s also personal for Community.
Kelley Barresi, a Community nurse, was just 42 when she was diagnosed with re**al cancer, only two months before finishing nursing school. Today, she’s a survivor using her voice to help others recognize the signs and seek care sooner.
She’s joined by Community’s Dr. Sanjay Thekkeurumbil and Dr. Sarah Jochum in encouraging earlier awareness and screening.
Their message is simple: listen to your body and don’t wait.

Dr. Ashley Perkins recently stopped by WTHR-TV to talk about something we don’t hear about enough—the gap between men’s and women’s health.
While women often live longer, they can spend more of those years dealing with health issues.
Dr. Perkins breaks down why that happens and, more importantly, what you can do about it, like staying on top of screenings, finding a provider you trust and speaking up when something doesn’t feel right.
Your health matters, and your voice does too. 🧡

Parents—this is an important one to talk about at home.
You may have seen the “Benadryl Challenge” circulating online, but this is far from harmless. It’s been linked to the deaths of three children in Connecticut, and health experts are urging families to take it seriously.
Dr. Jeremy Gagan, Community Health Network emergency medicine physician, recently shared on WTHR-TV just how dangerous this trend can be. Taking high doses of Benadryl can cause severe drowsiness, confusion, dangerous heart rhythm issues and even life-threatening complications.
If you have kids or teens on social media, now is a good time to start the conversation about medication safety and the real risks behind viral challenges. What may seem like a joke online can have very real consequences.

Hot, humid days can be tougher on the body than many people realize.
In a recent WTHR-TV interview, Dr. Jeremy Gagan, Emergency Medicine physician at Community Health Network, shared how high humidity makes it harder for sweat to cool you down, raising the risk for heat exhaustion and even heat stroke.
His advice is simple: Stay cool, stay hydrated and know the signs especially if you or a loved one are at higher risk.

More men die from lung cancer each year than from colon, prostate and pancreatic cancers combined.
That fact can be surprising, especially because lung cancer doesn’t always come with loud warning signs, including:
- A lingering cough
- Shortness of breath that feels new
- Fatigue that doesn’t make sense
These signs don’t automatically mean cancer, but they do mean it’s worth paying attention.

Long-term stress doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it shows up as poor sleep, constant tension, a short fuse or a body that feels stuck on “high alert.”
These are signals, not failures. Support can help your system reset and recover, at whatever pace feels right for you.
