Did you know that about 1 in 3 U.S. adults, some 70 million people, have a criminal record, including those who were arrested but not convicted?
This record can keep individuals from receiving jobs, homes, and educational opportunities.
In law, “expungement” is the process by which a record of criminal conviction is destroyed or sealed from state or federal records.
Building Black Leaders in Connection with South Carolina Legal Services is hosting Expunging Your Past: An Expungement and Pardon Guide for South Carolina Residents.
During this event we will cover the difference between an expungement and a pardon, how to find out if you are eligible, steps to create a successful application, how to qualify for SC Legal Services assistance, and even apply for financial help through Building Black Leaders Grants.

As human beings, we have a moral and ethical responsibility to take care of the world we live in and leave it in a better condition for future generations. This means taking action to address various issues such as climate change, inequality, poverty, and environmental degradation, to name a few.
Building strong communities is an essential step in fulfilling this obligation because communities play a crucial role in shaping the world we live in. A strong community can provide its members with a sense of belonging and support, which is essential for human well-being. By promoting a culture of inclusivity, empathy, and mutual assistance, communities can create a more compassionate and just society.
