Summer in Alaska is here, and across the state, kids are spending their days exploring new places, making new friends, and creating memories that will last long after the season ends. And as the season kicks off, here is a look back at some memorable camp moments from last year.
These experiences are made possible by communities that invest in their young people and partners who support the Camp Initiative Fund. This year, $845,000 is helping 47 camps across Alaska provide safe, enriching opportunities for kids and peace of mind for working families.
First hikes. New friends. And the kind of confidence that doesn’t wash off when summer ends.

Meet the four new voices guiding our next chapter at the Alaska Community Foundation. Leaders whose roots run deep in Alaska and whose vision reaches far.
Dr. Pearl K. Brower, President & CEO, Ukpeaġvik Iñupiat Corporation — a PhD in Indigenous Leadership and former president of Alaska's only tribal college, Pearl has devoted her career to advancing Alaska Native success, building institutional strength, and investing in communities for generations to come.
Victor Joseph, COO, Tanana Chiefs Conference — a longtime health and tribal leader guided by a simple, powerful belief: that healthy people become empowered people. For two decades, Victor has shown up for interior Alaska communities — from village health clinics all the way to the U.S. Senate.
Lisa Parker, President, Parker Horn Company — a lifelong Alaskan, Alaska Women's Hall of Fame inductee, and someone who has spent decades rolling up her sleeves for this state. From resource development to civic leadership, Lisa knows how to turn commitment into lasting impact.
Rita De La Torre, CPA & Director, Swalling & Associates, PC — with 35+ years serving Alaska businesses and Native corporations, Rita brings the kind of careful, principled stewardship that ensures every dollar entrusted to this work is honored — today and for generations to come.
Welcome, Pearl, Victor, Lisa, and Rita. We're honored to have you. 💙

Grateful for two special evenings of connection and shared love for Alaska.
In Tucson and Scottsdale, Alaskans gathered to reflect on the parts of Alaska that stay with them — from family and fishing to community and culture. Hearing those stories was a powerful reminder: Alaska is not just where we live, it is part of who we are.
Together, we explored simple, meaningful ways generosity can support Alaska’s people, communities, and landscapes, now and for future generations.
A heartfelt thank you to our generous hosts, Janelle Pfleiger and Lon Wilson in Tucson, and Mark and Desiree Pfeffer and Peggy Young in Scottsdale, who welcomed everyone so warmly and reminded us that wherever we are, we remain part of Alaska’s story.
We’re honored to help carry that story forward.
For Alaska. Forever.

Congratulations to all the 2026 ATHENA inductees. We’re proud to share this space with you and grateful for the leadership shaping Alaska now and for generations to come.
