Memorial Day is sacred in Alaska, the state with more veterans per capita than any other and, I believe, the most patriotic state in our Union. I was honored to speak this morning at the Anchorage Memorial Day ceremony and reflect on the extraordinary service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform over the decades, as well as their families. I also highlighted important lessons from the Vietnam and Korean Wars: Our duty as Americans to respect and honor our returning veterans and those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and to ensure our military’s readiness is always as high as possible whenever we call upon our military members to defend our nation and our freedoms. May God bless our fallen heroes, their families, our veterans, Alaska and the United States of America.
