I’m happy to announce a new PRO-only feature coming to Custom Tables.

You can now execute custom SQL SELECT queries directly inside layouts using a new Twig tag:

{{ tables.sqlselect("SELECT COUNT(id) FROM ") }}
Requires a separate MySQL read-only user

Credentials are stored in configuration.php (not the database)

No multi-statements

Even if someone tries to be creative — the database user simply cannot write.
Smart result handling

The tag automatically adapts to your query result:

SELECT COUNT(...) → returns a number

One row → returns an associative array

Multiple rows → returns a list of rows

You can also force the output mode:

{{ tables.sqlselect("SELECT COUNT(id) FROM ", "scalar") }}

{% set products = tables.sqlselect(

"SELECT title, price FROM LIMIT 5",

Update: Custom Tables 3.6.3 for Joomla

- Fixed update server URL.
- Added “Alias File Type” option to control output MIME type. If the alias ends with .json, .csv, etc., the appropriate Content-Type header will be sent.
- Added MIME Type selection field to the Layout editor for customizing content output formatting.
