Ice FALLING off Residential Homes in Anchorage.

Today a very large piece of ice, along with the gutters, fell off the roof of a house.

This was a large, well built house, with no history of this type of issues. The house has a

-steep pitch-
asphalt shingle roof.

The Ice could have killed someone. It took out part of the deck railing and caused other damage as well. Part landed on a cantilevered part of the house and you can see inside where the ice hit as it caused cracks in the sheetrock (similar to the earthquake damage cracks we saw in 2018). The ice that came down was the entire length of the house. If your house has ice damming (and probably a steep pitch as well), which most houses have had this year, please consider calling a roofer or general contractor or blocking off a large section around the ice blocks to prevent injury. If the ice lands near a basement or ground floor window, could it go into the house and shatter the window?
