Sunday Sumps in Southeast

One of the tighter entrance restrictions we've explored, this cave system starts on the side of a mountain, and the springing entrance that feeds a tumbling stream requires a relatively extreme amount of manipulation to get into, including turning completely sideways and shimmying rock-on-rock to get clear.

Once through, stepped shelfs of beautiful silt, punctuated by limestone protrusions and bacterial growth make it feel downright alien, and more than a little intimidating, knowing that there are no "quick" exits, and every fin kick is territory that no human, living or dead, has had the chance to lay eyes on.

Every diving member of AKUEP has had the chance to explore this system, and every year, we add more to the list of going sites with potential for more mapping and exploration.

Let's get after it.

Let's. Go. Diving.

Sea Whippet Saturday

It's hard to stay up with all the trends, but that Galaxy Gas really hits different....

That's what they're calling trimix these days, right?

We're pretty sure it is.

Don't Google it. The internet lies. It's all AI now anyway.

WE'RE RIGHT. WE'RE DOING IT RIGHT.

WEEEEEEEEE.

Friyay Ferret's First Foray Fixing for First Mate

Shout-out to Cooper Curtis and for helping facilitate a tour of the P/V Stimson when we were down in Kodiak, and unique piece of Alaska history named after Sergeant John Stimson.

If that name looks familiar, it should, as should the gentleman sitting in the command seat on the vessel named after his grandfather's sacrifice, who died on a rescue mission saving the life of a downed helicopter pilot.

John Stimson's coffee pot still hangs in the galley, as does commemoration to his life and final act of service.

We would be lying if this wasn't humbling and more than a tad emotional.

Thanks, Coop. Meant a lot to us, and definitely meant the world to J.D.

Feeling blue?

Is that such a bad thing?

Plus, it's hard to feel sad when you're greeted with the absolutely disorienting beauty of a glacier, and the absolutely shrieking cold that comes from submerging yourself willing in a moulin.

Or unwillingly, too, we suppose. Although that isn't quite in our service offerring.

Yet.

We'll do most stuff for a honest living, but we haven't quite figured out how to spin "unwilling glacier diving" into an honest living.

Just. Go. Diving.

On your own volition.

The Wednesday Wiggles

As in: "Good Lord! DON'T TRY TO WIGGLE IN THERE MAN."

Fun-ish fact: a non-standard signal for "stuck and need help" is crossing your fins.

Don't use or need that signal.

Hey Pal, You Can't Park There

You're really supposed to get a valet service, or something. I'm pretty sure there's street sweeping on every other Thursday, and I think the curb is marked as a double-solid red, which means that you're at risk of getting towed on every other day that ends in a "-y".

I dunno, man, I'm just the messenger here.

After all....

Just. Go. Diving.
