FYI
We’re taking a look at speeds on Tudor Road and Muldoon Road between Minnesota and Boundary Avenue. This effort was spurred by formal requests from the Anchorage Assembly and community councils to evaluate speeds in areas with a high rate of road-related injuries and fatalities.
WHY THIS CORRIDOR? There is a higher-than-average crash rate, including a high number of pedestrian-involved crashes. We analyzed crashes here between January 2020 and December 2024, and this is what we found:
- During this period, there were 2,224 crashes on Tudor and Muldoon Roads, including 42 serious injury crashes and 10 fatal crashes.
- Of the 10 fatalities, six were pedestrians, and one was a bicyclist.
- Of the 42 serious injury crashes, 11 involved a pedestrian and three involved a bicyclist.
- After the end of that study period, through December 2025, there were two additional pedestrian fatalities along the corridor.
Lower speeds can reduce the severity of crashes, especially for vulnerable road users like pedestrians, bicyclists, and children. Data show that other efforts should accompany a lower speed limit, including engineering changes that alter the character of the road, increased enforcement of posted speeds, and educational campaigns. Lower actual speeds are an important element of the Safe System Approach to improving road safety.
We’re interested to hear what you think about the speed limit along Tudor and Muldoon Roads. Do you think it should change?

Another Saturday another community cleanup. Thank you to the Russian Jack Community Council and community members for stepping up.
Don’t forget if you see things that shouldn’t be happening in our Parks report it. Like today I called in a person chopping trees down with a machete. No bueno.

It’s Muldoon’s moment for an update. Let’s improve our pedestrian and multimodal safety on one of Anchorages busiest and most densely populated commercial corridors. Let the state know about the speed limits on Muldoon.

FYI . Tap in. Comment by May 30. The Assembly already unanimously passed a resolution calling for further study and rejecting the finding of no environmental impact. Sponsored by Member Silvers.
URGENT: Public trail access threatened in East Anchorage: your voice is needed by May 30.
JBER has released a draft environmental assessment proposing a chain-link fence topped with barbed wire along the East Muldoon/JBER boundary from the Glenn Highway to Stuckagain Heights. This would significantly restrict public access to recreational areas that Anchorage residents have used for decades.
Details:
- Alternatives exist: wildlife-permeable fencing, sensors, and designated wildlife crossings, but aren't currently proposed.
- The proposal is open for public comment until May 30.
How to submit comments:
• Email: [email protected]
• Review the full environmental assessment: https://www.jber.jb.mil/Services-Resources/Environmental/Environmental-Planning/
• Direct PDF link:https://www.jber.jb.mil/Portals/144/Services-Resources/environmental/JBER_Perimeter_Security_Draft_EA_compiled_April_2026_508.pdf
Trail access isn't something we can take for granted. It's protected by people who show up, review proposals like this one, and submit thoughtful comments. Thanks to Senator Giessel and Bill Wielechowski for raising this issue! Please take a few minutes before May 30 to make your voice heard!

FYI - Join Alaska Railbelt Carbon Capture and Storage researchers from the University of Alaska Fairbanks Institute of Northern Engineering for a listening session on carbon capture and storage.
The researchers will share what they have observed so far through more than a year of work at the northwestern Cook Inlet, including geology, storage potential, and key findings to date. The ARCCS project is an ongoing feasibility study focused on CO2 transport and underground storage, and what that could mean for energy planning across the Railbelt.
Hear directly from researchers leading the study and take part in a discussion grounded in what has been studied and learned to date. As decisions about energy supply, cost, and reliability take shape this is an opportunity to understand the science behind a key part of one of the options being considered.
Carbon University of Alaska Fairbanks At the University of Alaska Fairbanks Institute of Northern Engineering, we are actively researching and developing solutions for a sustainable energy future, and a keypart of this is carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS).
