Hi! I'm Smo, The Photo Gecko! I specialize in natural moments, whether it be a bear grazing in the meadow or a human laughing at a joke.

I am a wildlife and event photographer currently living in Western Australia.

____How can you specialize in both wildlife and event photography? The ability to observe, predict, and photograph a subject in their natural environment without disrupting them is a core skill necessary for both wildlife and event photography.

The Canada lynx (Lynx canadensis) population size fluctuates in response to the snowshoe hare population size. We couldn't see what this one was hunting exactly, but we watched those characteristic ear tufts bounce around through the tall brush. A couple other good identifying characteristics are the short black-tipped tail and the big fluffy paws that help lynx travel over snow.

This adorable little porcupine was just munching away in the late afternoon sun :)

According to the , the normal diet of North American porcupine (Erethizon dorsatum) is lacking in sodium, so they are known to seek out salt sources such as road salt or human sweat on clothes. They are normally found in forested areas, but the salt craving would explain why we saw a different porcupine having lunch on the beach that day.

This is a baby Laysan albatross (Phoebastria immutabilis) spreading its wings in the strong wind. These animals instinctually soar great distances, and this little one was just starting to feel how the wind moves around its wings --- I thought it was an appropriate first image :)

No words could ever properly express my gratitude for those who have supported me to this point in my life. From family, friends, leaders, and mentors, to a stranger who financed my college education and adopted me into the incredible family, this is because of you ♡ Luckily actions speak louder than words, so in appreciation, I will continue on this crazy journey and use everything you have taught me to improve myself, the lives of others, and the world around me ♡

I'm trying really hard not to ramble (which we all know is a struggle for me lol), but I do want to give a quick shoutout to . He has amazing work, a great respect for his subjects, and really helpful videos on YouTube (including advice on how to display your images like this for Instagram). Thank you!
