Potato harvesting is so much fun! We've been digging taters this week at Anchorage schools and RurAL CAP supportive housing. Our booming spuds owe their gigantic size and stunning beauty in part to Broken Tooth, who has donated tons of spent grain to enrich the soil, Kaladi Bros. Coffee, who gives us burlap for paths and coffee grounds for compost, and of course, Mother Nature, for the ☀️ and 🌧️!

The Lake Otis Elementary School cabbage was 28 pounds! 🏆

Dr. Etheldra Davis Fairview Elementary School grew a monster! 24 pounder! Congrats!

Who will win the Giant Cabbage contest? O-S Cross seeds were started by Anchorage's Airport Heights Elementary students in April, and starts were given to Lake Otis Elementary and Dr. Etheldra Davis Fairview Elementary. They are currently growing in the schools' gardens. Grow, cabbage, grow! 🥬

Grateful for learning, sharing, and fun this weekend with Boyer's Orchard and the GROW Orchards and Food Forests grantees. With funding from the USDA Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry program.

Kellogg Campus Director Kelly Marciales, agriculture educator Alex Wilson, and a few of our partners from Alaska Resilience Farms (ARF) joined the RuralCAP GROW Orchard and Food Forest Training late last week for some hands-on learning and plenty of useful, timely and FUN information. From learning how to graft delicious apple varieties onto cold hardy and disease resistant root stock, to nerding out with fellow tree enthusiasts about growing degree days and food forest design, this workshop was a wonderful opportunity for professional development and networking with folks from all over Alaska. Thank you to all of the hard work that RuralCAP put into this workshop.
