BOOM BOXES

…here I am last Saturday at WOCA, just putting out the vibe. This is my latest piece of my childhood Boombox, called “Boom Boxes”, a 5pc set of literal wood rectangle “boxes” with the word “boom” like, all over it. The Boombox is an object invented to express yourself loudly and publicly and I wanted the piece to do just that. It’s big and bold and layered and loud. Or, I think it is, haha. First painted this Boombox at WOCA in 2014, I think, as my 3rd Stamp Pop painting—now still Looking At Objects Differently as I create from a different “perspective” of that same Boombox.

…I also wanted the set to read as a whole composition, but also wanted each of the 5 pieces to be able to stand alone, in case someone wanted them individually. Oh, did I mentioned they’re available for sale?! DM me if you want one.

…if you haven’t been to when it pops up at you should—it’s magical. I didn’t get any vids of the scene this time, but I’ve shared it often. WOCA puts up walls to allow artists to show their work. I’ve done it for 12 years now, and it fit perfectly with Radiant’s mission to hold space for communities, and so I helped get it there. The next show is in July, so come through!

THE TIES THAT BIND US

…a collaborative piece done by myself ( .pop.art / ) ( ), and depicting a year ago hanging frames for OCWS’s 1yr Anniversary Celebration & Gallery Wall at . The piece was humorously conceptualized after ripping the backs off of several frames so they would lay flat on the wall, and likening them to tiny looking neck ties, haha. We worked together on this piece—the concept through execution—and showed it at Art show a few weeks ago also at Radiant Beer Co. All 3 entities: OC Walk & Shoot, WOCA, and Radiant truly embody community and belonging and expression for many…so this piece is to symbolize that using photos from last year’s setup & celebration (also a handcut stencil of a pic of the literal frames on the wall) , and is on display again TONIGHT for OCWS’s 2nd Anniversary & Gallery at Radiant, 6p…come through!

A DOPE MOON!
…for First Friday: Vol 13 TONIGHT! I got the opportunity to do this month’s artwork for the Record Cover/Print/Sticker/Flyer 🙌 it’s a vibey Night Market so I wanted the moon like real fu***ng big and I imagined it sorta like a 3D blur.

…I’ll be doing 2 more throughout the year, still looking at objects differently, but most likely pushing my typical style boundaries. Stay tuned 😎

“FRILLY TOOTHPICKS”
…the digital concept for this Saturday’s set at — that’s not the full title, but that’s the object I’m looking at differently. I’ll be posting process pics till then, cuz it’ll look quite different. It’s also a little smaller than my usual WOCA sets, so this show I’ll be showing 2 different sets (the other. Sing the reworked “MORE PLANTS” that I recently re-completed. See you Saturday at 6 in Anaheim!

POP PUNK PATCHES!
…first edition w/ the “Chandelier ”; this being a hand-cut stencil and spray on old shirts and pants I kept (for this, haha).

…the idea came years ago when some of my Stamp Pop shirts getting older and worn out, so I had the thought of cutting them out like Punks do w/ band shirts on their jackets. Figured I can cut and stencil, or screen print, and even thought about special one-off’s that might be sewn. Cutting the stencils by hand it tough at a small scale, also, having a stencil that’s NOT acrylic/plastic makes it hard to reuse without getting to heavily saturated by the spray, cuz that’s what the fabric needs, is heavier saturation.

…but these were prototypes—2 sold. Interest for others…swipe to see them actually pinned to an old thrift blazer I have.
** $15ea if you want one. **

…any objects of mine you interested in next? I’ve been thinking about “Whiskey,” “Pint,” “Camera,” “Boombox,” and “Sunflower.”

TAMMY, COOL AS F**K!
…my mom was a work of art — in life, and in literal tribute creation yesterday for her Celebration of Life. The day yesterday was beyond emotional and amazing… the amount of love and support in the room for her, and for our family, was fu***ng awesome. But this art piece, made by and I: pasted digital manipulation in my .pop.art style, atop her 10, TEN!, pieces she made in my classes, was the personal contribution that I needed. TODAY is her 64th birthday. So, happy birthday, Mom... I love you so much. We love you so much. We miss you so much. Yesterday’s packed, standing room only, turnout proved the impact you made on this world, you beautiful human; you work of art. ❤️🥹

THIS SATURDAY!
4/8, 6-10pm & FREE!
…the Warehouse of Contemporary Art gallery pop-up is back and at a new warehouse just a few doors down at — but, like, IN the brewery; in the production space next to the tanks. I’m fortunate to be a part of this transition, bringing this space back to emerging artists, and excited to have a place to show some of my work.

…My “The Output” piece is what I’m planning to bring (swipe for a pic of it in my house) as it hasn’t been formally shown before.

ALL TYPES—LITERALLY!
…an organic night to bring your own project to work in, be around/meet (or not meet) like people & creative energy to learn from each other, share our work & processes & learn from each other informally & grow…providing you space to be you, with others like you.

…this first one will likely be loosest, with some meet & greet, along with some loose discussion around the scope of the terms “art”, “design”, “creativity” & “make”.

…we have some guest speakers being scheduled for future Art Night Tuesdays for a little more formal learning, too!

…brought to you by , , , & yours truly ( by .pop.art 👋) & will be reoccurring EVERY 1st TUESDAY of the MONTH as part of Radiant’s “To Do Tuesdays” 🤙

“POE MAMA”
…more dopeness in collaboration form between me and my 8yo daughter — our second. A Edgar Allen Poe “The Raven” mixed media piece made for Mama for her bday the other day. Our daughter, , executed it all under my direction…including taking the photograph of her hand on the book that we printed and used. She spray painted some metallic gold onto the wood as a base, as well as gold accents and outlines with metallic gold sharpie paint marker. The color scheme “matches” my wife’s classroom colors — soft green, coral, & gold. The orange/magenta is a more deconstructed “coral” for some more pop on her wall (or wherever she displays it. Boom.
