Southern California is defined by dichotomy: exorbitant wealth beside pockets of poverty, breathtaking nature littered with pallid strip malls, vibrant art suffocating within a culture of petty-bourgeois philistinism, and sentiments of opposition struggling for expression against a tepid conformism. Born and raised in these surroundings, Rob Wallace has traversed its varied and contradictory paths

For months I’ve been spamming friends to get them to listen to the new record, Peace in Place (You’re welcome!). With headphones on it feels like you’re getting beaten over the head with a sledgehammer, in the best way. It’s easily the heaviest thing they’ve ever put out and to me it feels like they’ve perfected the sound they were trying to make for almost 30 years now.
Last week they brought that exact energy to The Belasco in DTLA, with Converge, The Armed, and The Barbarians of California. (More posts to come). From a photo perspective, sometimes everything just clicks and you know you’re getting something good in the moment, almost like you’re mining for gold or something. I’ve gotta give a huge amount of credit to the lighting master who brought the heat and made a massive difference in what I was able to get.

As Hellfest weekend wrapped up I was lucky enough to shoot a quick session with the legendary DISEMBODIED before their show at with Turmoil and Ursula.
The new lineup is fronted by Mike Olender (Burnt By The Sun, Endeavor, For The Love Of…) backed by familiar legends Tara Johnson, Joel Johnson, Mike Paradise, and Morgan Carpenter.
I’ve attached a couple clips of “7 Stitches” from their set at Programme. Checkout the full video on YouTube (Link In Bio)

Deep in the humid basin of Anaheim, CA, we observe a rare gathering of the tribe within the House of Blues. The environment is thick with the scent of methane signaling a species that thrives on bean burritos, glazed donuts, and dark coffee. At the center of the ritual are the elders. There is Bill, a powerful, caveman-like figure who has channeled the wisdom of the drums through the ages, alongside the Bassmaster General Karl and the high-energy specimen Stephen. Their high-priest, Milo, peers through thick-rimmed lenses with a wide maniacal smile, signaling a nervous system vibrating from what could only be described as a “Bonus Cup” of coffee. Closer inspection determines he has clearly bypassed traditional hygiene in his quest for ALL.
The younger specimens at the barrier are seen here in a state of frantic agitation. Having fueled themselves with their own potent doses of caffeine, they are heard howling a rhythmic demand for a dwelling just like their ancestors. It is a glorious sight to witness the youth of 2026 screaming for their own suburban home. As the bespectacled agitator descends into the mass of unwashed bodies to share the noise, the ritual reaches its primal peak. We have determined that ALL in attendance will in fact be stereotyped as well as classified as they’ve adamantly requested.

Friday night (March 6th) fans young and old packed into House Of Blues to worship at the altar of the mighty DESCENDENTS. As I squeezed through the packed crowd into the photo pit before the set I found these teenagers (these kids) who looked like they’d just annihilated a gallon of dark roast together in some sick pre show ritual. They were practically buzzing, ready to blast off towards greatness in their quest for ALL! These kids were screaming at me before the set had even begun. They were begging me to help them get on stage to play the song they just learned while yelling at all of us in the pit for setlists. That level of adolescent enthusiasm is refreshing in 2026, I can’t wait to see the new generation of bands they’ll inevitably create as they find their way into the smaller rooms with the rest of us who have already had our lives ruined by punk.
Bill, Milo, Karl and Stephen were met with an explosive eruption of flatulence as they returned on their quest for greatness for a second night at HOB in Anaheim. They performed anthems professing their love for food, farts, and their van. Milo made his way down to the barricade a number of times to stoke the hysteria while giving us all a night we’d never forget. I’ve lost track of the times I’ve seen these legends play at big festivals and very small clubs but it was refreshing to see them in this big room packed with a thousand of likeminded degenerates looking for good clean fun.

This was the best Halloween of my life and I knew it in the moment, getting to see the original trio (Lock, Shock, and Barrel) bring these characters back to life at the Hollywood Bowl. Danny, Catherine, and Paul were a once-in-a-lifetime group of creative weirdos. All three have made the world a better place through their art. ❤️
18V bringing the end of an era. Tower of Snakes for one final time.
The kids who came from this little room have really circles the globe thousands of times. Entire subcultures sprouted from Chain and I think it’s hard for most of us to understand how far the reach extends. We’re all gonna be connected by this room even if we don’t know each other yet. This will be our common ground forever.

CHAIN FOREVER (1996-2025)

Over the years, I’ve come to realize that I shoot photos as a way of calming my existential dread. I want to hold onto the people I love and the places where memories are made. I’ve even gone back to family homes just to take a photo of a place I’ll never step foot in again.
On Halloween 2020, I somehow lucked out and found myself standing in the dark in the pit at Showcase, trying to time travel my way back to so many memorable nights. For all the years we’ve spent mourning the loss of that home, I knew we still had Chain as our secular house of worship.
I HAVE SO MANY MOMENTS to take me back. I have hard drives full of photos and videos of epic nights, and I’m going to make it a point to share them with everyone so we can always remember where we came from. This week, I printed this one out to keep in my own home. Since I’ve gotten messages asking for prints, I figured I’d put this up for everyone who can’t make it to these last nights.
