Esperanza student becomes a finalist at Chapman University Holocaust Art and Writing Contest

Anthony Luciano, a senior from Esperanza High School, was named one of six finalists in Chapman University’s 18th annual Holocaust Art and Writing Contest.

The awards ceremony took place on Friday, March 10, at Chapman University. This year’s contest theme was “Which Story Will You Make Yours to Tell?” Anthony’s artwork was a response to Holocaust survivor Sam Steinberg’s testimony, and how his story resonated with Anthony’s own grandparents losing some relatives to the horrors of the Armenian genocide during World War 1.
Presented by Chapman’s Rodgers Center for Holocaust Education, the competition is the largest of its kind in the nation. Over 7000 student artworks were submitted from California and 26 other states, as well as eight other countries including: Germany, Israel, Haifa, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Poland, Romania, and South Africa.
