Yesterday was International Volkswagen Bus Day and My Day Counts participants celebrated by getting to experience one in-person.

The VW Bus is considered a cultural icon that represents freedom, adventure, and innovation. These values are very meaningful for participants as they work towards their own goals in life.

Many great memories are created on the adventures of a VW Bus, and we are so grateful that participants got to make some of their own.

In Honor and Remembrance

My Day Counts participants took the time to volunteer during Memorial Day weekend at the Santa Ana Cemetery, where they decorated the graves of our brave heroes with American flags.

"It felt good to support our veterans who have served our country." - Frank (My Day Counts Participant)

We were honored to have this opportunity for the participants to celebrate a meaningful Memorial Day weekend.

This past weekend, our incredible Special Olympics Basketball Team, the Hoop Heroes, officially hit the court for their first-ever tournament at the OC Spring Games in Irvine. From the very first day of tryouts, to their many practices, we have watched these athletes pour their hearts into every drill and play.

They have built up their confidence to take on new challenges, improved their discipline to commit to a plan, and learned what it means to truly work together as a team.

Seeing all their hard work culminate in their first tournament was a moment we will forever be grateful for. We are beyond proud of their sportsmanship, their growth, and the pure joy they bring to the game.

Another Chapter, Another Act of Service

To help support their local community, participants took the time to create over 450 handmade bookmarks for 3 public libraries in Anaheim. (Anaheim Central Library, Sunkist Branch, and Haskett Branch)

At My Day Counts, participants are so grateful for the opportunities they receive to further their education. They value the accessible knowledge that libraries provide and wanted to demonstrate their love and support for them.

"Thank you so much! We look forward to sharing these with the community!" - Anaheim Public Library (Haskett Branch)

This past weekend, My Day Counts was invited to the 50th annual Orange County Arts and Disability Festival! The event was located at MainPlace Mall in Santa Ana.

To contribute to the celebration, MDC staff set up a booth where individuals in the community were able to create their own personalized frames to be used for display in their homes.

My Day Counts continues to highlight the importance of staying involved in the community during its 75th anniversary.

Happy Earth Day!

Earlier this month, a group of participants volunteered at the Heritage Museum in Santa Ana to help out at their Gospel Swamp Farm. Participants contributed by helping them mulch areas of the farm.

One participant stated they were very grateful to get the chance to come by and help because they believe it is important that an area for the community should be taken care of by the community.

Spring into Service!

To celebrate spring, participants in our Creative Choices program took the time to prepare Easter baskets for the children served by Community Action Partnership of Orange County. A total of 120 baskets were created!

They enjoyed this yearly opportunity to prepare goodies and spread joy to the youth in their community.

Our mission is to train people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities for success in life and work. My Day Counts participants understand that success is achieved when you empower your community.

Participants at My Day Counts are given the support they need for their life goals. For many of them, they have a goal to achieve employment in their community.

To prepare them, participants can take an Interview & Résumé course where they learn résumé-building tips, strategies on how to answer interview questions, and good habits on how to demonstrate professionalism.

They are motivated to work hard and challenge themselves each week to reach their career goals!
