We had a wonderful first week of summer classes this past week. Elementary kids worked on Reading and Math, Secondary students learned Biology and Algebra, and on Friday we extracted DNA & made pottery!

I honestly love how much freedom the summer months give us to let the kids explore freely and unleash their curiosity (without the boundaries of testing and homework).

Kids gain so much when they have space to explore, make their own decisions, and learn in ways that inspire their creative thinking skills. Just yesterday in math we learned about the Volume formula in connection to Dimension Theory and not only did the kids all understand volume deeply, but because dimensions grabbed their imaginations they passionately joined in a rousing discussion about time as a dimension (because is there a 4D?!), and the theoretical physics of multiple dimensions beyond those we can perceive. And these were middle schoolers!

Man, do I love summer.

There's still time to enroll for RSG's Aeronautics STEM Club! If your child is a hands-on learner, this is the perfect opportunity for them to learn science, reading, math, and writing (via lab reports) all while having a blast building and experimenting.

Research shows that students learn and retain more when they are excited and engaged in a clear project and goal. Reluctant readers become avid researchers, fearful mathematicians burst out rulers and calculators without being told. Working together to experiment and uncover the scientific secrets of their world, they grow as creative, collaborative thinkers.

In particular, students with ADHD thrive in this style of learning and we'd love to especially encourage our ADHD learners to join us!
