A lesser known fable told by the Giant's Causeway guides in the 1700 and 1800s tells a tragic story of two lovers, separated by the sea:

"Finn had fallen in love with a Scottish maiden. Sad that he couldn’t reach her, he walked along the shore, skimming stones out across the sea. Seeing the splash they made, Finn suddenly hit upon a plan – he would build a Causeway in order to see his love."

The legend of the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland says that the giant Finn Mac Cool built the causeway to reach Scotland and fight his rival, Benandonner. When he reached Scotland, he realized he could not win, so he fled home to Ireland, but Benandonner had discovered the causeway and decided to bring the fight to Finn. Finn got home and his quick thinking wife, Oonagh disguised him as a baby. When Benandonner arrived, Oonagh convinced him that the figure sleeping was her and Finn's baby. Benandonner feared how big the father could be if the baby was so large, and he fled home to Scotland, tearing up the causeway behind him.

I'm so excited for my sister to go to Seattle and the Olympic peninsula so I'm doing a throwback to my favorite photo from my trip 10 YEARS AGO. Time flies way too fast.
