Guess which building this is downtown? It’s peeking above another building blocking it from being seen, a road separating the two.

I noticed the inscription, I think for the first time, just yesterday taking Mazy for a morning walk. It made me wonder why buildings are engraved with V instead of U.

Google tells me it’s a nod to classical Roman inscriptions and the traditional Latin alphabet which did not have a U.

“Buildings constructed or carved in the late 19th and early 20th centuries (such as courthouses, libraries, and museums) frequently copied ancient Greek and Roman design. Aesthetic Preference: Architects and stone carvers felt that using "V" instead of "U" offered a more authentic, timeless, and artistic classical appearance. Famous architects like Louis Sullivan noted that the classical "V" was visually superior and fit monumental inscriptions better than a rounded "U””

Well, look at this nice canvas. A young man ordered it 2 days before Christmas. We finished it in 24 hours for his gift-giving! 🥳 🎁

He never picked it up. Sad🪊. After multiple attempts at contacting him, it’s clear we’ve been ghosted. It’s so disappointing to waste time (and money!) printing and stretching this canvas, especially during the crazy holiday season. 😞 And of course I can’t sell it…

But it makes me wonder why it wasn’t picked up? Here’s my guess. What is yours?

I think his girlfriend realized this wasn’t a guy that could follow through. He was probably late for dates. Maybe even a no-show a time or two. So she broke up with him. So a big congrats to her!

So. I guess I’ve been ‘gifted’ this canvas of a random couple celebrating a 21st birthday. You too can enjoy it in the shop where it will be on display. With darts nearby. (If she sees this and would like to use it for dart practice, let me know. ) 🙌
