Sumter County Fire and Rescue serves and protects the citizens of Sumter County Georgia. We protect approximately 15,000 citizens in this coverage area.
Sumter County Fire and Rescue serves the unincorporated areas of Sumter County including the cities of Plains, Andersonville, and Desoto. In addition SCFR has automatic mutual aid agreements with six counties in the surrounding area as well as Leslie and Americus. SCFR is a combination department. A Heat Advisory is in effect for portions of central and eastern GA from noon until 8pm today. Heat indices of up to 105 degrees will be possible across the advisory area. Please drink plenty of water and limit strenuous outdoor activities during the afternoon.

Our brothers across the river at Crisp County Fire Rescue reported on a residential structure fire that they battled yesterday.
They have some good fire safety tips that we encourage everyone to follow. Sumter County Fire Rescue will also install smoke detectors for residents of the county when needed. Call SCFR Command HQ at 924-6603 for more information.

These photos show Sumter County firefighters training on dump tank set-up, off loading 3000 gallons of water, and drafting from the dump tanks with engines to support fire suppression efforts.
While training happens daily, focused department trainings like this take place every 2nd Monday and 3rd Thursday of each month. Being ready for any situation is part of the demand and dedication of being a firefighter.
