A professional company member of OPERA America, Amarillo Opera has gained a national reputation for its dedication to young regional singers, education, community and diversity coupled with a commitment to presenting standard and unusual repertoire of the very highest artistic standards. The company has, over its history, presented ten world premieres and has received the Success Award from Opera America for its internationally acclaimed Education/Outreach programs. It has been recognized by the State of Texas Senate and House, Texas Commission on the Arts, Texas Parent Teacher Associations, Texas Regulatory and Protective System, the NAACP, the Amarillo Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, and several other statewide organizations. In 2011, the company’s critically acclaimed production of La bohème was telecast regionally on KACV-TV and the digital recording now resides in the permanent online archive at PBS.org. The company reaches more than 200,000 people annually through outreach and education programs.
