Meet our Volunteers!
Jody Wallace began volunteering at Fort Roberdeau around 1995. In the beginning, she found it difficult to volunteer because she still had three small children, but on occasion they would come with her and would help with her historical interpretation. In fact, her son, Connor, continues to help her with historical interpretation and was an intern and former staff member at Fort Roberdeau (see image). Jody worked with Peggy Goodman to develop programs, including "Flee to the Fort" and the W**d Warriors. The W**d Warrior program began with the planting of a single sugar maple tree, which has a time capsule buried beneath. Jody would later become a member of the Fort Roberdeau Association Board and served for at least 30 years.
Jody continues to volunteer at Fort Roberdeau. "I like volunteering at Fort Roberdeau. It gives me a sense of community and accomplishment. I am dedicated to the W**d Warrior program now, morphing into the 'Foragers Forest' project...At my age, it is becoming a physical challenge to keep up with managing a forest and fleeing to the Fort, but my hear is still in it!"

Meet Our Volunteers!
Betty Hayes started volunteering at Fort Roberdeau over 20 years ago after retiring from being a teacher. She had brough her school children to visit for Fort Roberdeau for field trips. Her specialties include colonial clothing and quilling.
"I really enjoy volunteering at Fort Roberdeau because I love children and teaching them the history of our country. When I retired, after teaching for 30 years in the elementary schools, I missed teaching and interacting with the children. Fort Roberdeau is a wonderful opportunity to do hands on teaching of our country's history. It's such a joy to see how excited the children are to dress up in the colonial period costumes, and know they will remember these lessons in history, and the reason we needed the Fort." - Betty Hayes on why she volunteers at Fort Roberdeau.
