Former Sul Ross State Head Athletic Trainer and Associate Athletic Director, Billy Ray Laxton, enters the East Texas Athletic Trainers Hall of Honor. His class includes Chad Heilberg of Paris ISD, Dr. Robert Dennis, and Dr. James Harris of Azalea Orthopedics.
Before Billy Ray's time at Sul Ross, he was the head Athletic Trainer at Tyler High (formerly, John Tyler High) from 1990 to 2001. Billy Ray was the first Chairman of the ETATA from 1996 to 1998.

We are proud to announce that Charlie Prude has entered the Texas State Athletic Trainers Association's Hall of Honor!
Son of John Prude and Betty Hicks Prude (SR Hall of Honor and Outstanding Alumnus, respectively), Charlie has been a long-time athletic trainer for San Marcos High School, Del Rio High School, and Sul Ross State University. Currently works in ranch and land management and is a lifelong West Texan.
He joins several Sul Ross State-linked Athletic Trainers in the TSATA Hall of Honor - Truman "Doc" Spoon (2018), Red Ganus (2019), Billy Ray Laxton (2021), Bain Ward (2022), Buzz Chisum (2023), and now Charles Prude (2025)!
All have either gone to school at SRSU or worked for SRSU!
We are so happy for Doc Prude! A great medical professional! Make sure to give him a pat on the back and a shout-out!
