Charles Norman Nunnelee
Charles Norman Nunnelee, affectionately known as Charlie to those who loved him, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, in Fort Davis, Texas. Born on July 18, 1940, in Mena, Arkansas, Charlie's life spanned over 85 years filled with rich experiences, deep connections, and a quiet appreciation for the simple joys that painted his world.
A retired drilling consultant, Charlie brought dedication and a steady hand to his career, but it was his personal passions that truly defined him. He found solace and wonder in the graceful flight of birds, the ever-changing tapestry of clouds rolling in across the Texan sky, and the gentle companionship of his beloved cats. Charlie’s heart was as colorful and serene as the favorite hues he cherished—green and blue—colors that seemed to mirror his calm spirit and enduring nature.
Family was the cornerstone of Charlie’s life. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Betty Nunnelee, who stood by him as a steadfast partner through all seasons. His legacy continues through his sons Charles Nunnelee Jr., Mike Nunnelee, and Calaway Nunnelee, who carry forward his strength and values. The warmth of his love surrounds his grandchildren Ashley, Taylor, Alexander, Nicholas, Rachael, Dalton, and Britney Nunnelee, and extends tenderly to his great-grandchildren Lilith Hodges, Henry Hodges, and Kiesha Nunnelee. In addition, he is remembered fondly by his daughters-in-law, Deb and Leisa Nunnelee; his grandsons-in-law, Matthew Hodges and Jenna Nunnelee. Each one held a unique place in Charlie’s heart, binding his family in a rich tapestry of love and kinship.
Charlie was also preceded in death by his father, Malone Nunnelee; his mother, Etta Starr; and his brother, Billy Nunnelee. Their memories lived with him always, shaping the man he became and the love he shared.
Charlie’s journey was one of quiet strength, deep observation, and heartfelt connection. To know him was to witness a man who found beauty in the everyday and who nurtured the bonds of family with unwavering devotion. His story is etched in the hearts of all who knew him, a lasting testament to a life well-lived, a soul well-loved.
As we say goodbye to Charles Norman Nunnelee, we cherish the legacy he leaves behind — a legacy not just of work or hobbies, but of kindness, patience, and an enduring capacity to appreciate the natural world around him. May his spirit find peace as serene as the skies he so loved to watch, and may his family and friends carry forward the gentle strength he embodied every day.
