Hard to believe summer is on the way…unless you’re a mom and have already broken out the June calendar! iykyk 😉
While summer is about the beach and lazy days in the sun, it can also be about maintaining the skills your kiddo worked so hard to develop during the school year.
You can squeeze in one hour a week (think also an hour of coffee time alone🤫) to keep things fresh so your kiddo can return to school in the fall with confidence!
Summer registration is open!

Why does the Barton program work so well?
1. It is based on the Orton-Gillingham approach, a research-based method designed specifically for people with dyslexia.
2. It is explicit and systematic, meaning skills are taught in a clear, step-by-step sequence that builds a strong reading foundation.
3. It uses multisensory learning, engaging visual, auditory, and tactile pathways to help students remember sounds and spelling patterns.
4. It focuses heavily on phonemic awareness and sound-symbol relationships, which are the core areas of difficulty for people with dyslexia.
5. Students must master each skill before moving on, ensuring gaps are filled and preventing confusion later in reading and spelling.
Quest tutors are trained in this life-changing methodology and are here to help.

1. Reads words accurately but struggles with spelling. An early reader may read fluently but spell the same word many different ways.
2. Guesses words based on context or the first letter instead of sounding them out.
3. Has trouble reading unfamiliar or nonsense words, even though familiar books seem easy.
4. Avoids longer or more complex words, often substituting simpler ones they recognize.
5. Reading looks good, but writing and phonics skills lag behind, especially when breaking words into sounds or spelling them.

However, risk signs can appear much earlier, even in preschool or kindergarten, such as trouble rhyming, learning letter sounds, or remembering sequences.
A formal diagnosis usually happens after a child has had some reading instruction, so professionals can see that the struggles are persistent and not just part of learning to read.
The good news is that earlier identification leads to better outcomes, because targeted reading instruction can start sooner.
More good news…even when diagnosed late, targeted instruction works!

1. Dyslexia mainly affects reading, spelling, and decoding words—not intelligence.
2. It is very common, affecting about 1 in 5 people to some degree.
3. People with dyslexia often struggle with phonological processing, which means connecting sounds in spoken language to letters in written words.
4. Dyslexia is lifelong, but with the right instruction (like structured literacy approaches), people can become strong and successful readers.
5. Many individuals with dyslexia show strengths in areas like creativity, big-picture thinking, and problem-solving.
