Send Relief

One Korean word has no simple English translation.

"Han" describes a deep sorrow carried beneath the surface—hidden behind success, achievement, and the appearance that everything is okay.

When volunteers served alongside local churches during Serve Tour South Korea, they discovered that some of the most meaningful ministry didn’t happen with tools or projects. It happened one conversation at a time.

Today, as we pray for IMB missionaries Hun and Eunjoo Sol, we’re reminded that God is using them to create spaces where people can bring their deepest hurts into the light and discover the hope of Jesus.

In one of North America's least-reached cities, one question came up again and again:

"Why are you here?"

Somewhere this week, a child will walk into their school with a backpack their church gave them.

They don't know yet what that means. They just know someone showed up.

But their mom noticed. Their dad noticed. The neighbor who watched it happen noticed. And the church that organized the outreach — the one that packed the bags and set up the table and stayed until every kid had what they needed — that church just became something in their community that it wasn't before.

This is Backpack Sunday. A simple act of compassion that tens of thousands of churches have used to say to their neighbors: we see you, we're here, and we serve a God who cares about your children.

"Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me." — Mark 9:37

Today, churches are welcoming children in His name. With school supplies. With the quiet, steady presence of a community that decided to show up.

The good news travels in a lot of different ways. Today it travels in a backpack. 🎒🙏

Tonight in Houston, two churches filled a room with music and gave generously to earthquake relief in Venezuela.

Houston’s First and Champion Forest Baptist Church came together, brought in top Spanish-language artists, and turned a concert into an act of bold compassion for families still rebuilding after the earthquakes.

This is what the Church looks like when it moves together.

Grace never imagined that soybeans could change the way she saw ministry.

As a pastor's wife and seminary student in northern Nigeria, she was carrying two callings at once — share the gospel and feed her family. Hunger made both feel nearly impossible. In her community, one in three children under five suffers from poor nutrition. She watched it happen in her own home.

Then she signed up for a nutrition course at her theological college — funded through Global Hunger Relief — and everything shifted.

Grace and 66 other women learned to prepare simple, nutrient-packed meals using soybeans. They cooked together. They built community. And when they graduated, each woman left with a full harvest of soybeans — enough to feed her family and start sharing with her neighbors.
Grace did more than share the food. She shared her faith.

"We invited women of other faiths to join us," she said. "Now we're friends, and we're finding ways to share Christ's love naturally."

That's what a bag of soybeans did. It opened a door.

This initiative has now reached 6,700 people, launched 67 microenterprises, and introduced 600 people to the gospel. All from a nutrition class. All from a simple ingredient. All because someone gave.

This is what your offering on August 23 funds.

Not an abstract program. Not a line item in a budget.

A person. A community. A door opened to the Bread of Life.
