Howdy, all. It certainly looks like YDA Alpena chose a poor time to restructure our social media and infrastructure! With the righteous protests sweeping the nation following the death of , the members of the Young Democrats of Alpena have one message:

We stand with our black brothers and sisters across the nation.

Systemic racism has haunted the United States since its inception, and never before since the Civil Rights Movement have we been on the brink of mitigating this spectre. To achieve true equality, we must all not only be equal in the eyes of the law, but we must also be equals in the eyes of those who enforce it.

So, in the name of all members of the Young Demcrats of Alpena, and Democrats across the nation:

Patriotic duty: Observe stay-home orders | News, Sports, Jobs - The Alpena News It goes without saying we live in unprecedented times. Alpena and Michigan as a whole are ghost towns … or at least they should be. April 15 saw thousands

A message to all those defying the Stay at Home Order: you are endangering lives. There are approximately 10 million immunocompromised individuals in the United States alone. This number includes cancer patients, elderly, those with genetic defects and many other individuals young, old, and everything in between. These individuals can not fight off a COVID-19 infection without the assistance of a ventilator. There are, however, only 62,000 operational ventilators in the United States, and some of those will be taken up by otherwise healthy people. With 3.6% of America immunocompromised, pick three people out of a hundred that you love. Imagine them dead. You have a patriotic duty to stay at home. It's a duty to your friends, your neighbors, your loved ones, and complete strangers. Help slow the spread. Stay at home.

After a few years of dormancy, Young Democrats of Alpena is officially reinstated! We at YDA are dedicated to giving the youth of today and the voters of tomorrow a voice, and once more that voice will ring out over Alpena County! Students ninth grade and up are welcomed, as are young adults.

More information will be forthcoming in the following months, though given the current outbreak of COVID-19 and the related complications official activities related to YDA have been postponed.
