Today was a sad day. A four week old kitten, that we had the honor of assisting with life-saving measures, in spite of monumental efforts passed away. This happens often in lifesaving work, vets, rehabs, doctors, nurses are inundated.

May each individual that played a part in her rescue be comforted, knowing they tried.

May all of the Frontline workers, in their varying forms, whether it be for humans, animals, or the planet, be comforted knowing they try.

To face suffering and death, especially in times like these where imbalance reigns, it can feel like the effort of trying is not enough.

But it is not humankind’s work to end suffering and death, but rather to learn to hold space for when the transition must happen, and to learn what role each of us plays in the dance.

May each light that sparks, quickens, and moves on, and those that guard their right to do just that, know their uniqueness creates the spectrum that is life.

Especially, our little black kitten.

❤️🙏

POEM:

AN ANSWER

And it is in moments of despair

When my chest caves, my eyes burn, and my soul cries

That my caught throat struggles to hold account creator, for why would one allow such suffering

Then a beam of light warms the forest floor

A rustle of wind dances in the canopy

And the delicate prancing of tiny birds

Interrupts

And answers with their mere existence

What makes this conversation difficult is that most people have never been taught the difference between strength and reactivity.

For thousands of years, entire civilizations have rewarded unrooted Yang: the ability to dominate, control, conquer, suppress, and overpower.

Because these behaviors were rewarded, they eventually became confused with masculinity itself.

But from a Chinese medical perspective, they are not signs of healthy Yang.

They are signs of Yang that has lost its relationship with Yin.

When Yang disconnects from Yin, it loses its orientation toward life and begins serving its own fears, insecurities, ambitions, and need for control.

This is why some of the most destructive forces in human history have been driven by emotional states.

And they belong to unrooted Yang, not Yin.

Which makes history’s treatment of women particularly fascinating. For centuries women were labeled hysterical. Their emotions, sensitivity, and intuition were pathologized.

Meanwhile the greatest expressions of collective hysteria were often occurring through unrooted Yang itself. Wars. Conquest. Control. Entire civilizations organized around fear and insecurity.

That is chaos.

Yet even today many wellness spaces describe Yin as chaos. Yin has never been chaos. Yin creates coherence. Yin organizes life. Life itself emerges through Yin.

Chaos emerges when Yang loses its relationship with Yin.

When movement loses direction. When power loses relationship. When action loses its devotion to life. And when enough people embody that state, it becomes culture. It becomes institutions. It becomes society itself.

Yang was never meant to organize life around itself.

Yang follows Yin.
Always.
