Are you a plant parent? Do you want to be? On 7/15 we’re hosting a community plant share workshop from 5-6:30pm in the Learning Garden at the Harvard EdPortal. Completely free, RSVP required, see bio link for RSVP. Hand-paint terracotta pots and transplant plants– one for you to take home, and one to gift to the Little Free Greenhouse. Swap plants and cuttings at the repotting and propagation station. Enjoy light refreshments and branch out to mingle with neighbors– you never know, you might make a new friend!
As part of our interactive public art installation Give & Take: Swap Boxes for Allston-Brighton, the Little Free Greenhouse invites you to leave and take plant themed items like live plants, seeds, gardening tools, pots, and more. During the workshop, vote on upcoming swap box themes to help shape autumn's swap box themes. What do you want to see swapped? 🥄Kitchen tools and supplies? 🧩Games and puzzles? 🖼️Tiny art gallery?
💚No plant care or gardening experience required to attend, all are welcome. It’s easy to love a plant.
Optional to bring to the event:
🌱 Bring a plant or cutting if you have one to donate to the plant swap and propagation station.
🪴Bring a small plant-themed item to donate to the Little Free Greenhouse. Items must be small enough to fit into a microwave sized box.
🔎Or just bring your curiosity and community spirit!

We’ve been busy the past few months working on "Give & Take: Swap Boxes for Allston-Brighton"—an interactive public art installation opening on 5/2! We’ve designed and built three swap boxes (think Little Free Libraries, but for more than just books) where people can give and take free items.
So far, community favorites for box themes are:
🌱 Little Free Greenhouse – plant-related items
🎨 Maker Box – small tools and materials for artists and crafters
🫖 Pottery Exchange – mugs, bowls, vases, and other ceramics
Help shape future themes—take our ongoing survey via the link in our profile!
As we gear up for opening, we’re actively collecting donations in these categories:
🌿 Plants, seeds, gardening tools
🎨 Materials, supplies, and tools for the artist, craftsperson, or maker
🫖 Ceramics—mugs, bowls, vases, pots, cups, and more
Have something to spare and live locally? DM us to coordinate—we’d be so grateful! Your donations will help fill the boxes and kick off the community exchange on opening day, May 2nd.
Thank you for our first 🌿 plant-themed donation-- 3 GORGEOUS hand-crafted terrariums 🌿
