- furloughed government workers

👉 WHAT TO EXPECT
Following a World Communion Sunday worship service, we'll collaborate with other Neighborkind Collective United Methodists to measure, pack, weigh, seal, and load 20,000 nutrient-rich, easily-digestible meals of rice, beans, and nutritional supplement until all meals are packed around 2pm. There are jobs for every age and ability; children are not just welcome to help; they are essential!

👉 THIS SUNDAY'S SCHEDULE
10:00am: Joint World Communion Sunday worship service
11:30am: Rise Against Hunger instructions & kick-off
11:30am-2:00pm: Packing of 20,000 meals
11:30-2:00pm: Lunch provided throughout for all volunteers
2:00pm: Wrap-up & clean-up
2:30pm: Conclusion

👉 COMMUNITY LUNCH FOR VOLUNTEERS
Take breaks on rotation to enjoy a lunch of smoked chicken legs, black beans & chimichurri rice, mac & cheese, salad, dessert, and drinks.

👉 KIDS TABLE & YOUTH CO.
Kids Table and Youth Co. students are all encouraged to participate; and we'll aim to find strategic moments to serve and eat together throughout!

DID YOU KNOW?!

👉Su***de is the 2nd leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 10-34, and 4th leading cause among individuals 35-44.

👉In 2023, 49,316 Americans died by su***de. In 2023, over 1.5 million adults attempted su***de, and 9% of youth in grades 9-12 attempted su***de at least once in the previous 12 months.

SO WHAT'S HAPPENING?!

We wanted to honor and remember those impacted by su***de this National Su***de Prevention Month, as well as find a way to support those working to end su***de. As part of the Neighborkind Collective, we hope that by raising awareness we can help all those struggling to know they are never alone and that they matter.

Please join us for this important Sunday when we can help save lives together in collaboration with the National Capital Area Chapter of the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention (AFSP). And we are SO blessed to welcome one of their board members to speak at the service, with our shared theme of "Together we save lives."

At the end of the vigil we will go out together to walk (about 20 minutes). Wear a Neighborkind or Franconia shirt, or the Su***de Prevention colors of purple or teal.

Join The Kingstowne Communion and Franconia UMC for a simple acoustic Neighborkind service of song and community reflection at 11am (note not our normal time!), followed by a BBQ potluck lunch and fellowship at noon. Neighborkind Collective will provide the main dish, drinks, cutlery, and paper products.

5 THINGS TO KNOW FOR SUNDAY

🎶 NEW WORSHIP TIME: Worship is at 11am (not at our normal 10am time). If you show up at 10am, we'll put you to work!

🍖 CATERED MAIN DISH: Come hungry! Chalkboard Wings & BBQ is catering our pulled chicken BBQ, mac & cheese, and honey lime slaw for all, complete with slider buns and all the sauces.

🍉 BRING A SIDE OR DESSERT: We've got the drinks covered, as well as the paper products. Please bring a side or dessert to share (and it doesn't have to be homemade unless you want to!)

🤾 KIDS: We'll have children's workers present to help lead and monitor play; but we won't have a defined space for babies and toddlers as we have at other parks.

The last six months have been pretty transformational. Because of the community we've created and the need we've discerned, we're excited to launch this new network of partners all working together toward remedying the epidemic of loneliness in our area and creating touch-points of connection that last.
