Drought conditions continue to improve across Louisiana. The extreme drought that was in Sabine and Natchitoches parishes is almost eliminated, and our southern parishes have no drought conditions at all.

We also have plenty of rain expected over the next 7 days, with a bulk of the 3-5 inches arriving on Sunday through Tuesday. This is thanks to the remnants of Tropical Storm Christina combining with an incoming cold front, which is the perfect recipe for large rainfall totals.

TRACKING THE TROPICS

As of this morning, the NHC is monitoring one area in the southwestern Gulf in the Bay of Campeche.

A broad area of low pressure could form over this area late this week, but conditions are not favorable for significant development as it will likely move inland over Mexico this weekend. The NHC has it under a 10% chance of formation within the next 7 days.

I am not currently concerned about any local impacts. The main impact we *could* see from this system (if anything) would be extra moisture moving into the area to enhance the rainfall that is expected next week.

A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for portions of Avoyelles and St. Landry Parish.

Nearly 4 inches of rain have fallen in areas near Plaucheville and Simmesport, with an additional 2-3 inches of rain possible with the slow moving thunderstorms over the area. Avoid driving in these areas if you can, and remember, turn around, don't drown, if you see any flooded roads!

Seeing plenty of thunderstorms across Louisiana this afternoon. Nothing severe, but lightning and heavy rain are likely if caught underneath one of these storms!
