: On this day in 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to declare that the Civil War was over, and that all enslaved people were free. Also known as "Emancipation Day" or "Freedom Day," Juneteenth is a monumental moment in our nation's history, marking the moment that freedom became available to all.

This day serves as an opportunity to celebrate Black history, resilience, and culture, and to reflect on our past while looking hopefully to what's ahead. We hope you spend this day well. ❤️

PCS moves to new states or countries can be overwhelming for military families, and with many of them packing up and going to new duty stations this summer, it's important that we show up to support them in any way we can. Here are some practical ideas you can implement for the military family in your life about to PCS. ⬇️

1. Help with practical tasks like packing boxes, watching children or pets during busy days, or assisting with errands.
2. Take the burden of cooking off their plate by dropping off a meal or sending a DoorDash gift card.
3. Offer emotional support by having candid check-in times.
4. Replace "Let me know if you need anything" with "I'm stopping by to help load boxes today!" or, "I'm grabbing a coffee, what can I get you?"
5. Send a care package for when they arrive with pantry staples, basic toiletries, and a keepsake from their last duty station.

PCSing is just one of the ways that service members and their families sacrifice much keep our country free, so let's do what we can to show them love and support during this busy season! ❤️

Diving into Data Needs and Trends in the Military Connected Community 06/17/2026

Last week, Caira Benson, our Veteran Support & Strategic Initiatives Specialist, presented insightful data that we've collected through our and programs at our "Diving into Data: Needs and Trends in the Military-Connected Community" webinar.

Together, we looked at live data collected in real time, representative of the military and veteran families we serve across all service eras and multiple discharge statuses. This conversation brought together supporters, advocates, and community partners, empowering those who support our nation's heroes to do their work in an informed and empowered way. 🙌

The need isn't slowing down.

Neither are we. ❤️

2026 has been a challenging year for many, but especially for military and veteran families.

With increasing global conflict, OPTEMPO is higher for many service members, causing disruption to family routines and stability. Rising costs have made it difficult to keep up with basic necessities like housing, food, and utilities. An unpredictable labor market is making job prospects uncertain for veterans, caregivers, and spouses.

These things barely scratch the surface, but there's good news: When we address these issues early and identify gaps in care, we can prevent crisis and ensure that those who serve have what they need to move forward with confidence. It's our way of ensuring that all service members, veterans, and caregivers never have to face these things alone.

This year, we've been stepping up to meet rising needs, but we need your help. With a monthly gift of $17.76 in honor of our nation's 250th anniversary, and those who fight to defend it, you can help us provide hundreds of heroes with the ongoing, compassionate support they deserve. Today, , commemorates President Harry S. Truman signing the Women's Armed Services Integration Act on June 12th, 1948, which officially allowed women to serve as permanent members of the Armed Forces. Prior to the legislation's signing, women primarily served in temporary or nursing roles, which is why it was such an integral moment, as it opened up more opportunities for women to serve in a variety of capacities. 🙌

We want to take a moment to say thank you to every woman who has served in the past and to those who are currently serving. Your sacrifice, courage, and dedication have made a profound impact on our country, and we know that it will continue to do so for generations to come. ❤️

if you know a woman who served, be sure to thank her today! 🇺🇸

Has the veteran you love been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder? If so, you may be wondering, "How can I support them?" This can feel heavy, but it doesn't have to. Taking a moment to learn some basic principles of how to step in as they navigate the challenges that come with PTSD can promote confidence as you offer your help. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

❤️ Make space for conversation without judgement, and listen more than you speak.
❤️ Be patient. Respect their boundaries and provide a sense of safety by allowing them to go at their own pace.
❤️ Encourage professional treatment and support services, speaking against stigmas that come with receiving help.
❤️ Show up consistently in the big and small ways, your presence matters more than anything.

It's also important that as you support the one you love walking through PTSD, that you take care of yourself, too. Make sure to get help where you need it, find a community that can come alongside you, and take quiet moments for yourself when things get overwhelming. At , we're here for you. If you need more support for yourself or the veteran you love, head to codeofsupport.org/get-help to get started today.
