The first Business Management Institute was held at Georgia State University in 1988. Developed by Joe Perdue, CCM, CHE, the BMI program is now flourishing. What began as a five-level professional development program has grown into 11 individual seminars and an exam review course. BMI takes attendees across the country and around the world, serving those in entry-level positions to senior-level executives.

1733 King Street, also known as CMAA's current headquarters, opened for business in 1989. Since the 1950s, CMAA's offices have been located in the Washington, DC-area, having moved several times around the region. But in 1989, the current building was purchased and it has been CMAA's home ever since!

More Than Movement: Wellness is no longer confined to the fitness or spa spaces. It’s woven into the entire club experience, from the design of spaces to the programming, and increasingly centered on how members recover, recharge, and sustain their well-being over time. Read the May/June for more.

CMAA celebrated its 90th anniversary at the 2017 World Conference & Club Business Expo in Orlando, FL.

CMAA Members earn local honors. Ernie LaRocca Jr., CCM, CCE, CMAA Fellow, and Stephen Feuz, CCM, were each recognized locally. Read more about their accomplishments in the May/June Link in bio!

In 1991, CMAA was 3,998 members strong, with the Lone Star Chapter leading the way at 271 members.

Who remembers CMAA's 92nd World Conference? In 2019, CMAA members descended upon Nashville for a week of education and networking - with a large helping of fun on the side. The networking event that year was held on Nashville's Broadway and followed by a concert at the historic Ryman Auditorium!

CMAA 1993 President Richard Kolasa, CCM, stated at conference in Nashville, TN, "We have one challenge that we must continually deal with in life and in the workplace, and that is change. Change can constantly create challenges. 'Meeting the Challenge of Change' will be our theme for 1993."

CMAA has a long history of bringing some very well-known faces to our World Conference. From former presidents to professional athletes, CMAA strives to have speakers who bring energy and entertainment to our members. An especially memorable example: In 1994, Richard Simmons led Conference attendees in workouts with his signature flare!
