New Mexico's acequias are disappearing, and it's happening quietly. Our neighbors' farms are drying up, groundwater is depleting, and centuries-old traditions of community water stewardship are being erased—all while major water-transfer decisions happen behind closed doors.

This isn't just about one water transfer. It's about whether science, transparency, and public welfare guide how we protect New Mexico's most precious resource. Acequias do so much more than deliver irrigation water—they recharge aquifers, sustain local food, preserve cultural heritage, and help our communities adapt to drought and climate change.

We're asking the New Mexico Office of the State Engineer and the Interstate Stream Commission to:
- Require scientific proof that transfers won't harm existing water rights or groundwater
- Pause additional Middle Rio Grande transfers until we understand the full impact
- Include acequia commissioners, farmers, Tribal governments, and communities in these decisions
