Morning Glory's antique mall, The Antique Connection, is closing after thirty wonderful years. MORNING GLORY's WEB SITE IS NOT CLOSING, just our bricks-and-mortor store. We will really miss our dealers and customers, but we have an offer to buy the property that we cannot refuse.

There are lots of sales going on at the mall with both inventory and display cases on sale. Discounts go as deep as 50% off on some things, so don't miss it! The mall is at 12815 Central NE, Abuquerque, New Mexico, and we are open 7 days a week, M-Sat from 10-5 and Sunday 1-5.

wonderful things can be found at the Antiue Connection Mall in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on old Route 66. We have both men's and women's antiques and collectibles, and new things arrive every day! We are a 10,000 square foot mall with about 60 diverse dealers so plan to come in. It's well worth the trip!

The Arts & Crafts purses were probably inspired by William Morris' designs and Elbert Hubbard's Roycrofter molded leather book bindings and purses, there were many makers of these Arts & Crafts purses, as well as the fittings and the frames. Meeker (Joplin, MO), Enger Kress, Amity, Justin, Bosca (Springfield, Ohio) and Kranz of Cordova Shops (Buffalo, NY) are some favorite makers. Jemco and Turnloc made many of the metal fittings for purses. They were most popular from the turn of the century to the 1930s and are made of genuine leather.

We are on old Rote 66 at the foot of the mountains at 12815 Central NE. We have everything from Fiesta to Bauer and much more, and all at great prices.

For the Victorians a cameo was a favorite piece of jewelry, possibly representing a meaningful souvenir of a Grand European Tour in the mid-1800s. Both men and women wore cameos set as necklaces, brooch, rings and earrings for women, and watch fobs, rings and stick pins for men, and these could be passed down from generation to generation. The Victorian fascination with all things historic is demonstrated in the classical Greek profiles and mythological motifs. Reflecting the Victorians love of gardening and nature, floral cameos were also popular. Carved in seashell, ivory, lava, stone, and jet, cameos could be set in precious or non-precious metals, some wealthy patrons even had their own likenesses done.

Although thought of as primarily an Italian art, there were also cameo carvers in America and other countries. Cameos remained popular into the 20th century and were even fashioned using "new" materials of the 30s and 40s, Bakelite and Lucite.

When buying a sea shell cameo, be sure to check it's condition by holding the cameo up to the light to detect possible cracks. There is no way to repair a broken cameo so buy selectively.

At the Antique Connection Mall we have a large selection of stuffed animals, and many Steiif toys as well. The Steiff Toy Company was founded by Margaret Steiff in 1880 in Germany. She was stricken by polio as a child. Determined to support herself, she took sewing classes. She turned the machine around so that she could use her stronger arm to turn the wheel.
The first toy she made was an elephant. Her three nephews joined the every-expanding company and went on to produce dolls, bears and many other different animals. The toys are known as "button in ear" for the little stamped metal disk which was placed in the left ear of all her toys and marks them as genuine Steiff. Beautifully made of mohair and wool felt, these toys are often handed down from one generation to the next.

Found at the Morning Glory Jewelry at the Antique Connection, a lovely selection of early 1930-60 Miriam Haskell jewelry. The pieces in these photos include the Larry austin art work that was used to advertise these marvelous pieces. We buy and sell Haskell and enjoy wearing it as well!

VICTORIAN 1890s Cottage Bedroom Set with original hand painted flowers and leaves as well as hand painted graining. The complete SEVEN-PIECE set includes a bed, which can be either standard or Queen sized; a dresser with large matching mirror; a night stand with one drawer; a wash stand; a rocking chair and 2 side chairs. EVERY PIECE has the matching decorations of wonderful lush flower bouquets and leaves. I have never seen a set like this one before! It has a few bumps and bruises, but is very decorative and useable for many years to come!
