The Albuquerque Sign Language Academy is an award winning, ASL/English dual language school that provides deaf, hard of hearing and hearing students and families access to an education that incorporates ASL and English, hearing and deaf, in an inclusive environment. The school was founded by big hearted parents and educators to offer families access to a high quality, 21st century school that also made it possible for students to remain close to home and learn in ways that better connect them to their families and community.

On September 4th, 2026, Steve Sandy came to ASLA to teach our students about William Ellsworth AKA “Dummy” Hoy. ⚾️
“Dummy” Hoy was a Deaf pioneer. Active from 1888 to 1902, he was a remarkably talented major league center fielder. Hoy introduced the hand signals for balls, strikes, and safe/out calls that umpires still use on the field. 🤟⚾️
For nearly four decades, since 1989, Steve Sandy has been leading a dedicated petition campaign to get Dummy Hoy inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. 🏆

This year‘s fourth annual Echantment Games were unforgettable!!☀️
Last Tuesday, the ASLA high school students inspected, treated and fed our honeybee hives.
It was a hot and dry summer and the hives needed a little bit of support to get through this season! 🐝🍯🦡
Working with our bees allows us to see the connections between plants, weather, humans and how environmental changes can affect the honeybees.
