This week, Rabbi Micah got the chance to answer some questions from ECC students as we Countdown to Rosh Hashanah!

This week Rabbi Celia sat down with some of our youngest members to answer their questions for our Countdown to Rosh Hashanah series!

Psalm 122 is a song of ascent—a song about Jerusalem, but also about where we hope to go.

The Malbim (19th century commentator) imagines Jerusalem as a place where all the different parts come together to create something whole. And that feels especially meaningful when we think about Jerusalem as Ir Shalom—a city of peace, and also a city of wholeness.

The Psalmist says, “Our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem.” We’ve made it through the gates, but we’re not done. There is still more climbing to do.

That feels like a wonderful metaphor for the High Holy Days and for the year ahead. We come together as we are, and then we ask: where do we want to go from here? How do we become a community that is more connected, more whole, and more at peace?

That’s also what Atid is about. The future isn’t just something we wait for—it’s something we build together.

As our choir sings Charles Osborne’s setting of Psalm 122, may we hear an invitation to appreciate where we are, to imagine where we might go, and then to keep climbing together.
