Watch out for Gift Card Scams 06/11/2026

Scammers are increasingly asking people to pay with gift cards, and that’s a major red flag. No legitimate business, government agency, utility company, or tech support representative will demand payment using gift cards. If someone asks you to buy gift cards and share the numbers on the back, it’s likely a scam.

Before you send money, stop and verify who you're dealing with. Taking a moment to check could save you hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars.

Protect yourself and your loved ones by staying informed, learn more about giftcard scams here:

Watch out for Gift Card Scams Criminals may demand payment via gift card or steal the value of cards at retailers. Here’s how you can avoid getting scammed

This work would not be possible without our partners at Albuquerque Public Schools, Rio Grande Credit Union, First Convenience Bank and One Generation Fund!
