People really enjoy these art renovation posts so I'm glad to post another one!
When these wood statues came in, the paint was faded and yellowing and there were many cracks in the wood. Our Ziegler's Art Department in Tulsa was able to strip off the old paint and varnish coats, fill in the cracks, and repaint with vibrant traditional colors. It’s always a pleasure for them to work on wood carved statues since they are, by nature, one-of-a-kind pieces of art. Enjoy!

Our Ziegler's Art Department in Tulsa, OK received this statue back in February, and it has been a very interesting project! The statue is concrete (and very heavy!) and you can see she had been painted, though the paint had almost completely faded. There was some surface damage as well. Though the statue appears to depict Our Lady of Lourdes, she had previously been painted wearing a blue robe, so the customer requested we bring back the blue. The art department had to use a special outdoor UV protected paint (not the usual oil), which means they had to hand mix every color used. They finished it off with a clear protective enamel. It’s always a fun change getting unique jobs like this one!

Here's an uplifting story appropriate to this time of year!
From Fire to Resurrection: Restoring the Stations of the Cross
04/02/2026
El Descendimiento is an old-world tradition rarely found in this country but which dates back at least 150 years at San Felipe Church.
Every Good Friday, at the recitation of the 13th station of the cross, the lifesized figure of Christ is taken down from the cross at the church. It is then carried in a procession through the
Old Town square and brought back to the church where the remaining
stations of the cross are completed.
The church's commemoration of the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ. 3:00pm
Come be witness to a tradition held for over 200 years in our parish. "Decendimiento" is a solemn celebration with Stations of the Cross, followed by the taking of Jesus from the Cross, candlelight procession and veneration of the corpus of Jesus.
