If you wince at the word ‘taxidermy’, never fear! Local designer Robyn Lees-West creates stunning faux taxidermy birds – the key word being faux. Robyn's colorful creatures are each made from recycled fabrics and stitched over many hours. “I’ve promised to make a life-sized Cassowary before the end of the year," she says. "I haven’t decided yet if he should have a party hat.” It’s a big ol’ yes from us, Robyn. View the rest of her incredible collection here:

Upholster your own frames

Make use of old fabric by dressing up your frames.

When was the last time you owned a picture frame that wasn’t black, white, brown or some kind of metal? We're willing to bet that you were but a wee one, and had one of those bright, flimsy plastic frames that had 'best friends' or 'love' written across the top in glitter glue.

Сraft your own crocheted moths.

Moths are divisive critters – people tend to either love them or really, really hate them. And unlike their smoother, leaner butterfly cousins, moths have the ability to strike fear into the hearts of many with a single flutter of their dusty wings. We’re pleased to say that we are not those moth-fearing folk. If one of the winged creatures happened to hurl its fuzzy body at our faces, we would not squeal and wave our arms about, we would just be mildly unsettled and slightly concerned for the offending moth’s safety.

If you’ve got someone in your life who you’re trying to coax away from the dark side (aka the moth-hating side), then we have an idea for you: invite them over for a pleasant crafternoon spent making these lovely crocheted moths.

🌺 Decorative blooms that don’t have an expiry date.

Stringing up real flowers across your abode sounds like a neat idea, but in reality, there aren’t many positives. The blooms would look great for a day or two, sure, but we dread to imagine the clean-up mission that would ensue once those petals start to drop.

To avoid such a disastrous situation while fulfilling all your fairy-garden dreams, we suggest having a look at this paper flower garland DIY by The House That Lars Built. Happy crafting!
