The Downtown Carnegie Library has been in continuous use as a library since the dedication in 1914. The final building cost came to $20,000. Mr. and Mrs. S.E. Mrs.

Andrew Carnegie, a steel magnate, was a philanthropist who began building libraries in the United States in the early 1900s. In 1911, he offered the City of Albany $12,500.00 to build a free public library provided they match his donation and staff the new building. We are excited to bring another excellent hands-on program to the Library. Join us this Saturday for Art Rocks!

We will have special guests on Saturday, March 14 - the Albany Public Library Foundation! Join them for a fantastic Painted Rocks program. They'll supply rocks, art supplies, and professional guidance. Feel free to bring your own rocks as well. This is a rare chance to paint with an expert. All ages are invited!

Join the Albany Public Library Foundation as we host Art Rocks at the CARNEGIE LIBRARY, 302 Ferry St. SW. on Saturday, March 14, drop in from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Design, paint, display, share and take home a beautifully painted rock or two or three.

We have over 150 smooth rocks painted in background colors: orange, white, silver, black and more, waiting for your imaginative touches. All materials (paints, brushes and other applicators, google eyes and more) will be provided. The event is free and all ages are encouraged to participate.

You can bring your own art rocks to display or swap, view lots of already painted rocks and take some home, and make your own news ones.

A free, all ages “scavenger” hunt looking for 20 architectural designs or items on 1st and 2nd Avenues (Calapooia to Lyons) for fun, discovery, hot cider, cookies and prizes.

WHEN: Sat., January 24, 2026; 11:00 – 12:30 Start, Finish before 2:00

WHERE: Start at the Carnegie Library (302 Ferry SW) and end at the Albany Regional Museum (136 Lyons Street)

HOW: You will be given 20 numbered pictures and a map of the target area on check-in at the Carnegie. Spot the items and mark on the map where you saw each one. Some will be easy, some will be hard but all can be seen from the sidewalks.
