Ram Island off the coast of South Port. We were one of the last to walk the lighthouse bridge here because a storm washed it away shortly after this photo was taken 🌊 Maine 💙

This is one of my favorite pictures. I loved these sweet girls! They seemed infatuated with me and maybe my American-ness, they had me take tons and tons of selfies with them and were all smiles and giggles. They are refugee girls from Syria (we think) and were at the Hamawand Tribal chiefs guest house, which was for receiving guests and conecting people with resources. It was a literal palace, so beautiful, inside and out.
✨️✨️✨️Please join me and my traveling companion, Carl Strock, next weekend to see this and many more never before seen photographs of this incredible trip to Kurdistan!! There will be yummy snacks, good company and of course, GREAT ART!✨️✨️✨️

Hamawand Tribal leader guest house in Kurdistan. The guest house is for receiving guests as well as refugees, and I think helping people in need, connect to resources. The inside was like a palace, it was so beautiful.

Kurdish men take my photo as I take theirs.

Two men taking a lunch break while working on a memorial museum site for the late Dr Marf Gul, who was one of the first people to ever write and publish about the Kurdish genocides in English.
The man on the left had us over for dinner a few days later. He asked me (through someone translating)if I recognized him in his nice clothes compared to his dirty work clothes from a few days ago 😁 (of course I did!).
The man on the right spoke pretty decent english, I had asked him where he had learned, and he told me he was self-taught, but mostly learned from American movies and video games, which I thought was very cool.
They were kind and sweet gentlemen, and I think they were laughing at me because I had learned how to ask to take a portrait in Kurdish, but of course, my Kurdish was less than perfect😅
