So, I’ve mentioned in the past how that we have these woogles “open-book” tournaments in Nigeria and how that that can be used as a way of flexing your scrabble strategic muscles from time to time.
Well, we are having a rather big one coming up soon.
The 6th Janet Adowei Scrabble Tournament is happening online.
With a star prize of 500 USD and so many other juicy prizes, this promises to be a blast! No matter where you are in the world, all you need is a device with an internet connection and you could be on your way to winning some fantastic prizes this festive season.

Remember, it’s OPEN-BOOK, so literally anybody can come out tops. For those of you who don’t know what “open-book” means, it implies that you can use any aids at your disposal within the allocated time. From anagrammers to outright scrabble engines like Quackle and Macondo, no aid is off the table!

Funny how some of these words are.
So, there’s this word: DEADMAN.
And then, there’s DEADBOY.
A DEADMAN is an anchor buried in snow and used (e.g in mountain climbing) to secure a rope.
Did you know that a DEADBOY is literally a ….small Deadman?

San Francisco Open was a success story, with yours truly finishing in 2nd place after a couple of months away from active play.
Overall, I believe I drew well. Made a couple of uncharacteristic errors here and there but above all, I had a lot of fun.

Catching some games of Chess with members of the St. Louis Chess Club during lunch break on the way to my Scrabble Word Cup triumph!
Played four blitz games(3 minutes +2secs added) with three different opponents.
Wait for it. I won all four!!!
Then went on to win the Scrabble Word Cup in style.

The more I think about it, the more confident I am of being able to pull off a Scrabble and Chess simul in the not so distant future.

It was a clean sweep for Nigerians living in the US in the just concluded Scrabble Word Cup!

It’s been a minute!
I’m sure you missed me. 😊

So, we are in Albany, New York for the July 4th Scrabble Tournament cm Bob Linn Allstars. Earlier on, a Best of 7 Bout between my humble self and UK Grandmaster Harshan Lambadusuriya was scheduled to hold the day before the tournament kicks off. I know that a lot of you, scrabble lovers, were looking forward to that as it promised to be one hell of a cracker. On that note, I have some bad news and then good news.

It turns out Harshan is, through no fault of his own, stuck in transit on his way to Albany. As a consequence, he would not be able to make it to Albany in time for the bout to take place, but he’d definitely be here for the tournament.
As they say in Showbiz, “The show must go on!” Taking Harshan’s place in the ring with me would be Nigerian Grandmaster and former African Champion, Nsikak Etim!
This promises to be an even more entertaining duel as Nsikak and I have played no less than a thousand games over the years and kind of have in-depth knowledge of the nuances of each other’s game, hence bringing to you the ultimate scrabble gorefest!
