🐶🐶Let’s talk about canine pregnancy (featuring a very hungry, pregnant mama!) 😂

Although welcoming a litter of puppies into the world is exciting, it can be stressful, very costly, time-consuming, and sometimes even dangerous for the mama dog during whelping.

If you are considering breeding your dog, there is so much information that you need to know. You should be familiar with your breed’s standard and OFA health test recommendation, as well as the responsibilities you’ll have in raising healthy well-socialized puppies. You will also need to know the signs of pregnancy in dogs and how best to care for your pregnant bitch.

Dogs are typically pregnant for around 63 days. During this time, you may notice an increase in appetite, weight gain, nesting behaviors, and a dog that tires more easily. It is important that during this time, you are in contact with a reproductive veterinarian to ensure all is well in your girl’s pregnancy. A veterinarian will provide helpful information on getting ready to whelp, along with proper nutrition, and be able to confirm pregnancy via ultrasound.
