5 QUESTIONS WITH DANNY LEDONNE - "The “Long Collapse” doesn’t envision one single event that brings about environmental and societal collapse, but instead proposes that hubris and a long cascade of events lead to a changed, downtrodden world. People are the same and they still worry about the same things, but in the near future of 2045, the world is a more primitive place that requires improvisation, cunning and vulnerability.
Danny Ledonne’s novel “End of the Tracks: Homecoming” is a story that’s more character study than it is driven by plot. It fits into some genres, but follows itself along the tracks and overgrowth forests of the Pacific Northwest.
Ledonne grew up in the Valley and lives in Bellingham, WA these days, but he’s home for the summer, enjoying time back on the family ranch. The novel is a prescient, post-apocalyptic look at the world, but Ledonne has hope for our future and laces that throughout the book.
The novel was first realized as a screenplay more than 10 years ago and just last year Ledonne got to writing. Now that it’s in print, he’s making time to talk about his process and his art. He’ll be speaking at the Narrow Gauge Book Coop in Downtown Alamosa on Saturday, June 28, starting at 6 p.m."
